Things to consider before hiring a Web Designer or Web Design company

If you are interested in digital marketing for your business, having your own website is the most important thing – especially for an online business. Websites are the best way to educate your customers about your offerings and to promote your products and services among your target audience. Your website can contribute to your business’s success, so the decision of whom to hire to create and manage your website is critical. When you are hiring a web designer for your website, keep these points in mind:

Decide your Budget:

Decide how much you can invest in designing or updating your website. If you are unsure of your budget,  do some market research and ask web design companies about their range of services. Compare prices and find the company who fits your needs.

Domain Name:

You need to purchase a domain related to your company that lets people know who you are and what you’re all about. Try to choose something that will be easy for your customers to remember. Also consider a name that includes your most prominent keyword(s) for better SEO.

Design Specification:

If you have a particular style or design in mind, or you like the layout of another website, show an example to your website designer. This will help them better understand your expectations.

Responsive Web Design:

A visitor to your website may be using a different platform than you, so your site needs to be compatible with most of the popular platforms. Your site should be tested before launch to ensure compatibility with different internet browsers.

Keyword Strategy:

Do some research about the keywords related to your site prior to your website development. If you have a clear idea about your important keywords you can use them in the URL structure, content optimization and other on-page SEO activities.

Time Frame:

Ask your website designer how much time they will take to design, build and test your website. This could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months, depending on the web design company’s capabilities and resources and the scope of your project.

Content Management:

Content is one of the most powerful aspects that can make your website a big hit. Discuss the content of the website with your designer. Content should be unique and provide information that your user is looking for. Avoid duplicate information occurring across pages.

Ask your website designer about their relevant experience and request at least two reference sites, ideally work similar to your own requirements and price range. You can also contact a few of their clients to see if they were happy with the process, the end result and how long the project took.

Search Engine Friendly:

Getting your website listed by top search engines, such as Google, is an important factor. Your website designer is not responsible for your SEO work or search engine results, but your website needs to be structured and coded properly internally so that it can be easily optimized for search engines.
